The short answer
Henderson made food trucks simpler in 2026. Since June 2026 the city’s mobile food vendor license is a flat $150 a year (HMC 4.05.297, Ordinance 4163, adopted 16 June 2026), replacing the old fee that rose with your gross revenue. On top of it you need a Southern Nevada Health District permit ($658 plan review and $335 a year), a Henderson fire operational permit if your main business office is in Henderson, a background check, a Nevada state business license ($200 a year) and a Nevada sales tax permit ($15).
The location rules are close to the City of Las Vegas rules with two Henderson twists: a 500 foot school buffer instead of 1,000 feet, and a cap on how many days a single shopping center can host trucks. Read the parking section below before you sign up a regular stop.

Who regulates a Henderson food truck
- Health: the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD), which covers all of Clark County. Same permit, same fees and same chapter 10 build rules as Las Vegas.
- Business license: City of Henderson Business Licensing, under HMC chapter 4.72 (mobile food vendors) and 4.05 (fees). Call 702-267-1730.
- Where you can park: the Henderson Development Code, summarized in the city’s mobile vendor handout.
- Fire: Henderson Fire Department, under the 2024 International Fire Code with the Southern Nevada amendments, effective 2 January 2026 (HMC 15.32). Fire permits: 702-267-3942.
- Parks: Henderson Parks and Recreation, 702-267-4000.
The permit path, in order
- Line up a commissary. The city handout requires an approved commissary, and SNHD wants a written commissary service agreement as part of your application.
- Apply for SNHD plan review before the truck is built. The mobile food service plan review is $658 and the annual permit is $335 from 1 July 2026. SNHD wants the equipment and plumbing layout, vehicle registration, your state business license, markings, ventilation and generator specs, the Nevada LP gas inspection, the menu, the storage address and the commissary agreement. We supply the drawings and equipment specs.
- Get the annual propane inspection from a company licensed by the Nevada LP Gas Board, which applies the Board’s decal near the tanks.
- Get your fire operational permit and pass the annual fire inspection. See the fire section.
- Pass the background check. HMC 4.72 requires a police background check on the applicant and every driver. Under HMC 4.03 a full investigation is $250 and the limited one used for employees is $50.
- Apply for the city license and pay $150 a year, plus the city’s application fee ($50 or $25 depending on the license class under HMC 4.04.065; Business Licensing will tell you which).
- Get SNHD food handler cards for everyone on the truck: $25 each, valid three years, first test in person.
The license cannot be transferred and you cannot lease your truck to someone else to operate under it. Violations are misdemeanors and each day counts as a separate offense.
Where a food truck can operate in Henderson
These rules come from the city’s mobile vendor handout, which cites the Development Code, and from HMC 4.72:
- Mixed use and nonresidential districts only.
- 30 minutes in the right of way, then move at least 150 feet.
- Two trucks per day per commercial center or per stand alone parcel.
- Four hours a day per center or parcel, no more than three days in a row, and a center or parcel can host trucks for no more than 90 days in any 12 months. Longer arrangements can be considered through Design Review.
- 150 feet from a licensed restaurant while it is open, and 150 feet from another mobile vendor, unless you are on the restaurant’s own parcel acting for it or with its written consent, or at a special event under a Temporary Use Permit.
- 500 feet from any school and its adjacent park grounds while school is in session and for 30 minutes before and after the posted school zone times, plus any posted school zone and the opposite side of the street in front of a school (HMC 4.72.090(E)).
- Written permission from the property owner, with a copy on the truck.
- Paved surface only, up to five parking spaces for up to four hours, and never in a fire lane.
- No permanent location. You cannot leave the truck unattended, leave it on site while closed or store it there overnight.
- No tables, chairs or tents except a single condiment table, and no temporary signs beyond a menu board.
The 90 day rule is the one that surprises people. It means a shopping center that hosts you every Tuesday and Thursday runs out of days before the year is over, so a Henderson route needs more than one or two regular hosts. Office parks and business campuses, private events and catering, and city events fill the gaps.
Noise and generators
Henderson is stricter than Las Vegas on noise. The handout bans bells, chimes, amplified music and any other attention getting noise anywhere in the city, generators have to meet the city noise chapter (HMC 8.84), and HMC 4.72 bars disturbing residences between 9pm and 8am. Henderson is also a city of master planned neighborhoods, and the customers are often near homes. If your plan includes evening stops near residential areas, a quiet inverter generator or an all electric build is worth looking at.

Fire inspection in Henderson
Henderson adopted the 2024 International Fire Code with the Southern Nevada amendments through Ordinance 4090, effective 2 January 2026. A fire operational permit is required for a mobile food preparation vehicle with appliances that produce smoke or grease laden vapors if its main business office is in Henderson. A truck with a current fire operational permit from another Nevada jurisdiction is exempt. The city’s mobile vendor handout still says every vendor needs a fire permit and an annual fire inspection, so ask the fire department how they apply it to your truck.
The city’s development services fee schedule (effective 1 October 2025) lists $153 for a mobile food preparation vehicle operational permit, charged in addition to a base inspection fee of $417 for up to 3,000 square feet, and $44 for the fire review of a business license application. Confirm which of those apply to a truck with the fire department.
What the inspector looks for is the 2024 code’s Section 4106: a Type I hood with automatic suppression over grease producing appliances, a Class K extinguisher where you fry, propane under the limits with containers secured and inspected every year, a listed propane alarm, and the methane alarm required by the Southern Nevada amendments.
What SNHD wants built in
Because Henderson is in Clark County, the truck has to meet SNHD’s chapter 10 build rules: no more than two service openings, each no larger than 18 inches square; at least 6 feet of interior height; integral fresh and waste tanks, with a fresh tank of at least 40 gallons and a waste tank at least 15 percent larger; cooling and ventilation that keep the inside below 100 degrees; propane installed under the Nevada LP Gas Board’s rules with a leak alarm; and your business name with address or phone on the back and both sides in letters at least 3 inches tall. SNHD also limits you to four hours at one stop, one hour if the crew has no restroom, and wants a monthly route sheet.

What the first year costs in permits
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| SNHD plan review (mobile food service) | $658 |
| SNHD annual permit | $335 |
| Henderson mobile food vendor license | $150 a year |
| Henderson application fee | $25 or $50 |
| Background check, applicant (full investigation) | $250 |
| Nevada state business license | $200 a year |
| Nevada sales tax permit | $15 |
| SNHD food handler card | $25 per worker |
That is roughly $1,630 to $1,660 before food handler cards, the fire permit and inspection fees, the annual propane inspection, your commissary and insurance. Clark County sales tax on prepared food is 8.375 percent.
Working in more than one Clark County city? Henderson’s code (HMC 4.04.190) sets a multi jurisdictional business license fee as the sum of each city’s fee, so it does not save you money over separate licenses. Confirm current options with Business Licensing.
Events and parks
Henderson’s city venues use food trucks regularly, and they are a good way to get known:
- Water Street Plaza (240 S. Water St., next to City Hall) hosts the city’s Trucks and Tunes lunches, food trucks and live music on the second and fourth Tuesday from March to May, 11am to 2pm. The city had not posted a 2027 schedule when we checked.
- Henderson Hot Rod Days on Water Street, 2 and 3 October 2026, with food and drink vendors.
- Indigenous American Heritage Celebration, 8 November 2026 at Water Street Plaza, with selected food trucks on site.
- The Great American Foodie Fest, 25 to 27 September 2026 at the Galleria at Sunset (1300 W. Sunset Rd.), which takes food truck applications online.
To sell in a city park you need written approval from Parks and Recreation, sales are limited to parking lots, the school rules still apply and alcohol is not allowed (HMC 2.27.030, amended by Ordinance 4147 in March 2026). Special events are permitted through Henderson police under HMC 8.10: the organizer applies 30 to 180 days ahead and pays $125, with insurance naming the city as set by the risk manager. SNHD temporary event permits start at $179.83 for one to five days if you do not hold an annual SNHD permit.
For a short stay at one location outside an event, HMC 4.05.375 offers a $50 temporary sales or service permit for up to 14 days at one location, generally once a quarter, applied for ten days ahead with the property owner’s permission.
The Henderson market
Henderson has 353,289 people (Census estimate for July 2025), up 11.5 percent since 2020, which is more than twice the growth rate of the City of Las Vegas over the same period. About 20.8 percent of residents are 65 or older and the median household income is $90,138. It is a city of master planned communities, business parks and family events, which suits catering, community events and daytime lunch service more than late night street trade.
The climate is Las Vegas climate. Henderson has no NOAA normals station of its own, but the Las Vegas airport station a few miles away averages 104.5 degrees in July with an 82 degree July low, and 78 days a year at or above 100. Build for the heat: air conditioning sized for the cook line, refrigeration condensers with room to breathe, and a generator in its own vented box or no generator at all.
Sidewalk vending is separate
Henderson regulates sidewalk and open air vendors under its own chapter, HMC 4.75, which grew out of the state’s 2023 sidewalk vending law. Those rules cover carts and stands on sidewalks. They do not apply to a food truck, and a food truck license does not let you sell from the sidewalk.
Building a truck for Henderson
We draw every Henderson truck to SNHD chapter 10 and the 2024 fire code, and we talk through power before anything else, because the noise rules make generator choice a real decision here. You approve the layout in CAD before we build, and we give you the drawings and equipment specs for SNHD plan review.
